Q:  What may I expect in my first session?

A:  The first session is typically a diagnostic interview designed to discuss your reasons for seeking our psychological services, collect background history and establish goals.

Q:  How long are psychotherapy sessions?

A:  Typically 45 minutes.

Q:  When do I pay?

A:  It is customary to pay in full at the end of each session.  If you have insurance, you just pay your co-pay and deductible each session and we will file your insurance for the balance.

Q:  Do you accept credit cards or debit cards?

A:  No, sorry, only cash or checks.

Q:  How long do I need to be in therapy?

A:  Some people benefit from even a single session but most people attend a minimum of four to seven sessions depending on the seriousness of the diagnosis and issues being addressed.   Audio taping sessions and completing homework properly allows patients to reach their goals in fewer sessions.

Q:  Is what I share with Dr. Boland confidential?

A:  Yes, your confidentiality is protected by state law, HIPPA and by the rules of professional psychology.  All information concerning patients is held confidential and is released only through procedures consistent with the law and professional ethics.

Q:  What if I think I need to be evaluated for medications, or I am already prescribed medications?

A:  Dr. Boland is licensed and trained to practice psychology, not medicine.  He specializes in the diagnosis and psychological treatment of mental health problems.  Frequently, local physicians refer patients to him to make a diagnosis so they can then determine the appropriate medication.  At your request, he will be happy to consult with your existing physicians regarding medication and medication management.  If you do not have one, he will be happy to recommend a local physician that he has been impressed with over the years.
